Supernatural vs. Ghost Hunters: Who You Gonna Call?

Sam and Dean Winchester of Supernatural have been hunting ghosts most of their lives. They’ve taken on spirits out to avenge their own murders, spirits attached to vintage items and a few ghosts who didn’t even know they were dead. But when you hire the Winchesters, sometimes things get messier before they get better. Not so with the TAPS team of Syfy’s Ghost Hunters. These guys and gals use the latest technology to find out if your haunting is more fiction than fact.Have a ghost problem? Need help? Who you gonna call? Let’s compare the two and find out.

When it comes to high-tech, ghost hunting gear “Ghost Hunters'” Grant Wilson and Jason Hawes have it all over those Winchester boys. Dean’s homemade EMF detector simply doesn’t hold up against thermal imaging, trap cameras and their basecamp full of computer monitoring equipment.

On the other hand, when it comes to equipment of the witchy kind, Sam and Dean rule the ghoul school. Over the years they’ve wielded a Colt pistol that can kill demons, a sword made to kill dragons, devil’s traps, protective tattoos, a symbol that sends angels into the outfield and the Rituale Romanum, which Sam can recite by heart and with great flair.

There’s no “I” in TEAM and no hunter who goes it truly alone. In the world of the Ghost Hunters, Grant and Jason are backed up by a combination of experienced technicians and passionate, excited newbies. Still, it’s unlikely that Dave Tango knows how to kill a rugaru. For that, you need Supernatural’s resident curmudgeon, Bobby Singer.

If the Ghost Hunters find themselves faced with a demon, they might call in the local padre, but the Winchester brothers have one better. They have an angel on speed dial. For problems of biblical proportions, Castiel is as invaluable as Dead Man’s Blood in a vampire’s nest.

No matter how good a hunter is at his job, it all comes down to results and this is where the Winchesters of Supernatural really shine. Where the Ghost Hunters only document the existence of ghosts, Sam and Dean lay those spirits to rest. Then again, the Ghost Hunters never released Lucifer from his cage to jump-start the apocalypse, so maybe we shouldn’t put a mark in the Supernatural win column just yet.

Who You Gonna Call?

When you compare both teams of paranormal hunters, the answer is clear. If you’re looking for a high-tech team to debunk the ghost story that surrounds the house you’re trying to sell, hire the TAPS team of Ghost Hunters.

If you have paranormal problems of the deadly kind, you can count on Sam and Dean Winchester of Supernatural to save the day and they’ll look good doing it.
