A soap opera about rich kids in New York City doesn’t sound like a show I’d watch, but there was always something deliciously tantalizing about Gossip Girl that pulled me right in. I guess it was the mysterious Gossip Girl herself, watching everyone, cataloging their moves . . . like Pretty Little Liars’ “A” but without the murders.
Having spent some time living in New York, I was also attracted to the setting which was a character in its own right. And then there were the clothes. I’m not a fashionista but I find inspiration in the way the series connected clothing with personality. Where else could you see outfits like these color-coordinated coats.
This sixth and final season packs in the drama. Blair and Chuck reunite, Dan writes a tell-all book, and Serena comes to terms with who she is and how she wants to spend the rest of her life.
And of course, Gossip Girl is revealed in an ending that features a few old favorites who come back to say goodbye.
Gossip Girl: The Complete Sixth and Final Season on DVD contains the final ten episodes and several extras.
“A Big Farewll” and “XOXO to the Upper East Siders” featurette appears to be the retrospective The CW aired before the final episode. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a grand walk through the history of the show with a closer look at casting, the fashion and the guest stars.
Pop the DVD in your computer and you can download the “Gossip Girl” Prequel: It Had to be You Audiobook.
The DVD also contains deleted scenes and a gag reel which will be fun for diehard fans but doesn’t add all that much to the set.
I also wish they had done something better with the navigation screens. The show is so modern and stylish but the graphics look like they came from a low-budget 80’s DVD.
If you’re a fan, you’ll want to add this set to your collection. It’s available now on Amazon.com.
