Waiting in the Wings: My Top TV Shows for MidSeason

The Following

This new thriller from Fox has tons of talent behind it. It comes from Kevin Williamson who gave us The Vampire Diaries, Dawson’s Creek and Scream and it stars Kevin Bacon.

Bacon plays FBI agent Ryan Hardy. His one job, to catch escaped serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy of Rome) before he kills again. . . and again. . . and again. As if one killer on the loose wasn’t bad enough, Hardy finds out that Carroll has spent his time in prison networking with a dozens of other killers and they’ve been making plans. Call this one 24 meets Prison Break. It should be Fox’s next big hit.

The series also stars Shawn Ashmore of Animorphs, not to be confused with Aaron Ashmore from Smallville. Easily done, since the boys are twins.

The Following premieres Monday, Jan. 21 at 9 on Fox. Fox will also have a new season of American Idol starting on Jan 16.

Stars of three other CW shows come together for this new thriller about a series of murders based on a creepy TV series called “Cult.” Jeff (Matt Davis of The Vampire Diaries) an investigative journalist, heads out on the trail to find his missing brother and ends up combing forces with Skye (Jessica Lucas of Melrose Place), a research assistant on the show. What they find out is that the fans of Cult are some of the most rabid on the planet and some of them are excited by the prospect of turning the gruesome work of fiction into fact. Supernatural’s Alona Tal also co-stars as Detective Kelly Collins.

The CW has not set a premiere date for the series as yet.

The Carrie Diaries

Okay, so no one is murdered in this one, but I already have a soft spot for this teenage version of Sex and the City.

AnnaSophia Robb stars as a 16-year-old Carrie Bradshaw. With the passing of her mother, Carrie is looking for a change and she gets it in the form of an internship at a Manhattan law firm. She’s quickly falls in love with the pace and glamour of the city and it sets her on the path of becoming the fashionista we already know and love.

Since I spent a few teen years at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Manhattan, I can totally relate to the feeling of wide-eyed wonder Carrie has for the city. I really am looking forward to this one.

The series premieres Monday, January 14 at 8pm on The CW.
