Irwin Allen TV Movies Arrive at Warner Archives

It's no secret that I'm a huge Irwin Allen fan. I grew up on Lost in Space, Land of the Giants, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and Time Tunnel. But while others praise him for his big screen disaster movies, I'm a bigger fan of his TV movies - which, up until now, have been very hard to find.

Tomorrow, Warner Archives will be releasing 5 of Irwin's TV movies and you can get the whole collection for half price, $55.95. You get Flood!, Fire! Hanging by a Thread, The Night the Bridge Fell Down and Cave-in!. Exclamation points at no extra charge.

We'll be buying them, and I really should review them. They're loaded with all of your favorite actors from the 70's and they have all those wonderful cliche disaster moments that have been copied a hundred times over ever since.

If you're a fan of disaster films, TV movies, or Irwin Allen, you won't want to pass up this deal. Click here.

  1. Unfortunately, "The Night The Bridge Fell Down" reportedly has a manufacturing flaw in the worst possible spot: the second DVD freezes up with about ten minutes left to run.

According to Irwin Allen Blog and IANN.net, WB is aware of the problem and, quote, "issuing credit rather than sending out (further) replacements until the fault is rectified;" replacements which were sent out apparently have the same flaw.

WB has sent me a replacement, but it's still in the mail; here's hoping the problem is fixed. Buyers should ask Warners Archive about the issue before buying.

I bought the full set, and the others all worked fine. "Fire!" and "Flood!" have hilarious trailers, but otherwise the set is bare-bones.

  2. Yep. We have the same damaged disc. Sigh. But man, the trailers on Fire and Flood are really something, aren't they? Flood is still my favorite of the bunch.

  3. Well, the problem's apparently fixed--sort of. Irwin Allen Blog and commenters at IMDB say they've gotten working copies of "Bridge." Not me, though...
